French President

F. Hollande, the french president was attending the soccer game when the incidents started to take place and was immediately rushed to the homeland ministry to be briefed about the terrorists attacks. He then reached the concert venue to see for himself the destruction caused by the terrorists. He ordered a state of emergency, closing temporarily french borders, promising to retaliate against terrorism without mercy. Many leaders worldwide including US president B. Obama and Russia’s Vladimir Putin have voiced their support to France.

History

Since WWII, France has never faced such a tragedy, the killing of 120 people (the number might increase) in one single night marks the highest death toll of a terrorist attack recorded in the French territory. The latest of them that is still fresh in our memories is the attack on Charlie Hebdo, a french journal hit by gunmen earlier this year.

More war to come

With the recent events, it is clear that a significant pressure is on the French President, who now has the responsibility to react in order to answer those acts of terror. It is hard to tell who is behind those deadly events, but it is believed they carry the mark of ISIS, the islamic state. If confirmed, such fact can only lead to western powers really considering the presence of ground troops to eradicate ISIS once and for all, but here is the problem; Russia already has ground troops there fighting ISIS, therefore, can a coalition be formed with Russia knowing that NATO allies want to get rid of Assad’s regime, which is supported by Putin? Hardly possible. One thing is certain though, the US government has sent 50 special forces to support efforts to destroy ISIS. Those special forces are not to engage in “direct confrontation” but only provide “tactical support” to US backed rebels. This is a limited number of soldier you would say, but they did specify “more could support their efforts in the near future”, that is the open door they have to possibly send more soldiers. Clearly if they do, their allies will rally behind them and in the effort to put an end to ISIS, but where is Russia going to fit in that picture?

In Months to come, the development of the Syrian crisis is surely going to make mainstream news, this mess needs to be cleared as soon as possible, or clearly more terror attacks might follow up. With such a high number of casualties, possible terror attacks must be prevented at all cost, for who knows what limits these people are more than willing to cross in order to serve their crazy ideologies.

Our deepest sympathies go to the families that are mourning their loved ones in those attacks and to the French people as whole, may they find comfort in these perilous times, hoping President Hollande’s engagement to be ruthless and without mercy concerning the authors of these outrageous events will set things to motion to destroy these terrorists cells worldwide.
